Processed Foods: Chemical Laden with Poor Nutrition

With processed foods comprising 80% of the average American diet, there are predictable byproducts of the drive-through norms. Throughout the history of man, we've never ate such high concentrations of preservatives, gluten, artificial colors, artificial flavors, pesticide residue, herbicide residue, fungicide residue, plasticizers, detergents, GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms) etc. It's not just one of these chemicals causing the measurable detriment to our population health statistics, it's the amalgom (the cocktail) we're exposed to every day. Some people's genetics allow them to handle it better, or worse, than others.

A good rule of thumb is to take everything that's available at your favorite convenience store (beside gasoline), and never ever purchase anything of the sort, even if you see it at your grocery store.

Americans have already paid too dearly, in wellness, for the convenience and prevalence of processed foods in our diet. Man or woman, it's time to get more aquanted with cooking naturally at home, for yourself and your family.

The items that you find in the center of your grocery store are the cheapest, most imbalanced, high carb, incomplete sources of nutrition available. The items that you find around the parimeter are higher quality, more perishable, nutritional, natural and far less laden with chemicals.


Artificial Flavors

The artificial strawberry flavor (like the kind found in most strawberry milk shakes) contain the following ingredients:

Artificial strawberry flavor (like every artificial flavor) is NOT just one ingredient, but a toxic cocktail that too many people are too tempted to reach for. Decades of low level poisoning has occured in the populous, and it's time we as consumers change our purchasing patters.


Artificial Colors

Most Artificial Colors are "Coal Tar Dyes"

Coal Tar: a thick, black, viscid liquid formed during the distillation of coal, that upon further distillation yields compounds, as benzene, anthracene, and phenol, from which are derived a large number of dyes, drugs, and other synthetic compounds. (Dictionary.com)

Colorants are extracted from the coal tar and used to colour our food. There is also extensive research and testing showing these artificial colourants to be very bad for humans.

FD&C Yellow No.5 (also known as: E102, tartrazine)
Known to provoke asthma attacks, urticaria (nettle rash), altered states of perception and behaviour, uncontrolled hyper agitation and confusion, wakefulness. Is also known to inhibit zinc metabolism and interfere with digestive enzymes.

FD&C Yellow No.6 (aka: E110, Sunset Yellow)
Known to provoke allergic reactions such as abdominal pain, hyperactivity, hives, nasal congestion, bronchoconstriction (asthma), kidney tumours, chromosomal damage, and distaste for food. It produces urticaria, swelling of the blood vessels, gastric upset. Has been linked to growth retardation and severe weight loss in animal tests and increased incidence of tumours in animals.

The list of artificial colors is long. Most have been found to be carcinogenic, mutagenic (causes genetic mutation), and teratogenic (capable of interfering with the development of a fetus, causing birth defects), yet they remain legal to be used in foods. Many artificial colorants have been banned in a number of European countries.

Too many "Food and Drug" authorities around the world refuse to accept these findings, claiming them to be safe for human consumption despite the rising evidence against this; supporting multi-national corporations over consumers.


Organic vs. Non-Organic Foods

Organic fruits and vegetables are also good choices because pesticides, fungicides and herbicides are not sprayed on the produce in the growing process. These chemicals are designed to stay on the plant, even in acid rain. These toxins are complex chemical chains that are completely foreign to the ecosystem, and thus the human body has no idea what to do with them, so it shoves them into body fat to deal with "later." Eating organic is one spoke on the wheel of getting these chemicals out of our food chain, increasing our state of wellness and alleviating our health care system of excess burden.

Organic milk is of the most essential organic products available to the public. Regular milk contains antibiotics, hormones and puss from infection which is seen as standard in the dairy industry. While the puss is measured as an acceptable white cell count, how does it feel knowing that a lot of people are out there drinking puss from sick cows? Maybe even you and your family are drinking it. However, you can stay away from that stuff because affodable options do exist.

It's important to eat organic whenever you can, even though the 100% Certified Organic U.S. standard has declined in quality over the years.


Simple Carbohydrates (High Glycemic Index)

A low simple carb diet is the only way to go, no matter what your trying to achieve through your diet. A calorie has never been a calorie. The days of thinking otherwise are over. Simple carbs are one of the biggest cravings Americans endure because carbs break down directly into sugar and opiates for the body and brain, and that feels good after you eat it. Unfortunately, the blood suger and opiates will plumit shortly after digestion, leaving the person feeling worse than before they ate. Most Americans live a high carb diet for the convenience of time, lesser impact on the pocketbook and the subliminal effects of blood sugar high's. We have to retrain our tastes to increase our wellness and recognise that super high levels of carbs in our diet has become a common toxicity.

In terms of retraining our taste in food, we typically enjoy the gooieness in breads and pizza crusts. Unfortunately, this is reflective of the excessively glutenous properties of the doe based products we eat. Today, Americans consume about 500 times the amount of gluten compared to those about 80 years ago.

Plastic in the Food Chain

NEVER microwave your food in plastic containers or even eat food in a plastic container. Plastics contain chemicals called plastisizers that make the substance malable and able to absorb shock. You can think of a plastisizer as a synthetic water molecule. Back in the 1950's we had grandios ideas of producing "food-grade" plastics. Today, we know that every plastisizer known to man works as a xenoestrogen in the body, wreaking havoc upon the hormone biochemical pathways. Also, it's well known that all xenoestrogens are carcinogentic by they're very nature. So, unfortunately, "food-grade plastic" is not in our forseeable future, nor have we ever experienced it.

Plasticizers tend to outgas and concentrate into an enclosed space. The "new car smell" is caused by plasticizers evaporating from the car interior. Train yourself to understand that the new car smell, and so many more like it, are literally the smell of chemicals that make you less healthy with every wiff.


Water Quality

Distilled water is the best choice. Some people think they get their minerals from impurities in drinking water. Little do they know that the vast majority of impurities are simply toxic to the body, not nutritional.

Reverse osmosis (RO) is only second best because you must have a near brand new filter membrane in order to adequately purify the water. Every batch of RO water produced is less purified than the one before it, until the membrane is replaced. If you get your RO water from your grocery store (or a similar supplier) it's hard to trust that they replace these expensive membrane filters on schedule or when they actually should.

Tap, spring and bottled water are all about the same. These are the poorest water choices available. It all comes out of the ground with minimal filtering, and worse yet, plastic bottles leach plastisizers out into your water


Corn

Genetically-modified corn causes organ damage in rats. A study conducted by scientists published in the International Journal of Biological Science, which looked at three different types of GMO corn, found a variety of side-effects from consuming the corn.

“In the three GMO corn varieties that formed the basis of this investigation, new side effects linked to the consumption of these cereals were revealed, which were sex- and often dose-dependent. Effects were mostly concentrated in kidney and liver function, the two major diet detoxification organs, but in detail differed with each GM type. In addition, some effects on heart, adrenal, spleen and blood cells were also frequently noted.”

Typical corn in the human food chain has been apallingly adulterated by man. Today, our primary organs that detox our bodies daily are compromised by consuming corn products.
